Welcome
to the College Heights Secondary School Website!
We are an excellent, small school with a caring, hardworking and dedicated staff focused on preparing our students for exciting and rewarding futures. Any student considering Secondary Study at the Applied or Essential Level should investigate the wonderful opportunities here at College Heights. In the fall of 2012, we will be offering Eight Specialist High Skills Majors Programs by adding the Arts and Culture SHSM to our already impressive list of Specialized Programs. We already offer high level programs in Agriculture, Construction, Health and Wellness, Horticulture and Landscaping, Hospitality and Tourism, Manufacturing, and Transportation.
Students who choose this school do so to take advantage of our practical, hands-on type of education which aims to develop transferable employability skills in a wide variety of career areas. Students can develop skills in a variety of areas, such as auto body, auto maintenance, horticulture, small engines, commercial cooking and baking, communication technology, manufacturing, construction, welding, and cosmetology. Our Applied level program provides the same applied level as all other schools, preparing students for College and Apprenticeship. In our Essential Level program will help students who require smaller classes and more intensive instruction in the academics and movement between the two levels is always encouraged where appropriate.
The program that we offer to students is organized around career pathways, each with its own program that aims to develop the necessary knowledge and skills for our students to leave our school and be able to move into further education or the work force in a meaningful career. Our Specialist High Skills Major Programs are excellent preparation for College and Apprenticeship Programs.
We focus on the literacy and numeracy skills that complement the employability skills students will need in the changing workplace of the 21st century. All students will be encouraged to take part in a 2 week work experience in their field of interest and then to take at least one coop in their time in high school.
